#3 Coolest things I came across this week
Stepping out of your comfort zone, becoming an overnight success and a fun fact about a $2 trillion-dollar company.
Hi, hope you’re doing well. For this month, this is going to be my last piece on the weekly things I learnt/came across. Hopefully, I will be publishing my next essay on the coming Sunday. It’s about the most actionable and thought-provoking Masterclass which I attended this summer.

First of all, let’s catch up. Cycling is going well. The good music alongside it really improves the experience. Here is a superb podcast which I highly recommend; it covers cycling for beginners, goals settings, nutrition, and more: Ask a cycling coach - Trainer Road
Thank you for the outstanding support to this series of the stuff I encounter on a weekly basis. LET’S DIVE IN!
Product Placement of an iPhone: Are you a villain?
If you play a villain in a movie, you cannot use an iPhone. Apple doesn’t let you. Knives Out director Rian Johnson said: "Apple, they let you use iPhones in movies but, and this is very pivotal if you're ever watching a mystery movie, bad guys cannot have iPhones on-camera... Every single filmmaker who has a bad guy in their movie that's supposed to be a secret wants to murder me right now.”
I think that in the next murder mystery film by Rian Johnson, every character will probably use an android just to throw us off.
In House of Cards, Frank Underwood was the villain and he carried an iPhone. This is a relatively new thing. Hence, now if you go to the theatre to watch a thriller/mystery movie, and somebody has an iPhone, it means that they’re not on the bad side. Wait, was this a spoiler? Sorry. …Spoiler Alert, I guess.
Fast growth is an illusion
Lessons are skimmed when success comes at you fast.
Picasso was once sitting in a park. A woman saw him and asked if he could draw her a portrait.
Picasso agreed, finished it, handed it to her, and said: "That'll be $5,000."
The woman was confused: "But it only took you 5 minutes."
Picasso said: "No, it took me my whole life."
It’s years of consistency and suddenly you explode.
It takes years to become an overnight success.
Looking for shortcuts is a waste of time.
NOW! Even as a life-long Real Madrid supporter, I wholeheartedly believe that Messi is the most talented football player of this generation. This was the response he gave when asked about his ‘overnight success’:
“I start early and I stay late, day after day, year after year. It took me 17 years and 114 days to become an overnight success.” ― Lionel Messi
Step out of your Comfort Zone
Crazy how all self-help advice boils down to just try it, right?
I am here to give you something different.
The smarter you are, the worse off you are, because smart people are better at calculating risks. When you’re smart, and you likely are, you can see all the downsides to a situation before you even try. I’m not saying to follow every impulse you have or make no plans for your future whatsoever. I encourage you to realize that the thinking part of the equation covers 10 percent of the process. The doing makes up the other 90.
It’s a weird paradox — our ego causes us to constantly worry about ourselves yet also causes us not to do the things we really want.
Think about it. You’re not following your dreams. Because of your ego. Because you don’t want to feel butthurt
. I love using that informal word because it trivializes your feelings of fear and doubt. Quit being afraid of being butthurt. Step out NOW.
Endnote: Fame
There are two kinds of fame:
Kim Kardashian Fame: You’re famous for being famous, so everyone knows who you are.
Charlie Munger Fame: A small number of people deeply respect how you think, but no one would stop you if you are walking on the street.
I choose the 2nd one. Niche fame. It’s intrinsically rewarding. Doing hard work, helping and giving back is what keeps me going.
THANK YOU!
Lastly, thank you all for the messages and support I have been receiving lately. Cheers to you all.
